Christmas Eve Rush

. . . isn’t here with us! I hope it’s not there at your house either.

Hopefully, you’re relaxing and not running through Walmart like your drawers are on fire.

We did go to Walmart earlier for some craft items needed for work, and to pick up dinner fixin’s. It wasn’t quite the madhouse that we were expecting; a nice surprise. Happy Holidays to me!

Here’s how we spent the day (instead of being in a mad rush to get ready for tomorrow, or shopping for last minute gifts).

Hiking in Ash Meadows wildlife park.
There’s a lot of salt/alkali blanketing the desert like snow in this area. I can handle this snow, hehehe. It’s not nearly as cold or hard to drive in as that Wisconsin stuff.
Not sure what tree this is but it has some fun, lil’ clear ball-like berries.

There are a few natural springs in the wildlife park, and they’re the brightest clearest blue topaz color you’ve ever seen. Of course, the quickie photos just don’t do them justice. (Oh, and a shout-out to my pal Emily who’s livin’ the Wisconsin Badger dream just now! WootWoot! I thought of you when I bought this hoodie.)

These weird things are the leaves(?), pods(?) whatever, of the Screw-bean Mesquite tree.

I didn’t have my big camera with me (battery was needin’ a little charge) so I just grabbed my tiny point-and-shoot. The photos aren’t stellar, but they’re good enough for today.

I’m sure we’ll spend quite few more days out there exploring. There are a few more parts of the park that we didn’t get to. And, I want to snap some nifty, artistic pics with the ‘real’ camera.

Happy Christmas Eve, hope your day was as fun and relaxing as ours!

Christmas Eve Rush

  1. Best Xmas ever! No family: just we two. Napped a lot. No gifts (well, Chris did find me a book downtown; he can’t buy anything from amazon because we share our Prime account!). Steak, baked potatoes, and roasted brussel sprouts for dinner. I think there’s a piece of chocolate pie in the fridge. A completely non-traditional, no stress holiday. This must be repeated next year. What did you guys do? (Send an email? I may find the energy to get back to my messages tomorrow. Right now, this semi-drowsy state is heaven!) Oh, it snowed for 20 minutes–just enough of a white Xmas to satisfy me (if not the parched forest areas). Don’t you just love being outside and hiking in the winter!!??
